About the Event
As the world approaches the 250th Anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence and the 205th Anniversary of the Hellenic Revolution, this EMBCA event , hosted in collaboration with The Demos Center of the American College of Greece and its Director, Mary Cardaras, will explore the enduring dialogue between Hellas and America, two republics united by their shared ideals of freedom, democracy, and human dignity.
The discussion will examine the historical, philosophical, and cultural bonds connecting the two nations from the influence of ancient Hellenic thought on America’s Founders to the Philhellenic movement that supported Greece’s fight for independence.
This year’s theme holds special resonance as 2026 also marks the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Ioannis Kapodistrias and the 200th Anniversary of the Exodus of Missolonghi. EMBCA’s 205/250 framework has become a unifying lens for upcoming commemorations, including the 205/250-branded Greek Independence Day Parade in New York.
Together, these milestones invite reflection on the shared revolutionary spirit that continues to link Hellas and America across generations.
