Join us for EMBCA’s “Legacy and Impact of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens” Webinar Panel Discussion on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 2 P.M. EST/ 9 P.M. Athens EEST. The discussion will be introduced and moderated by Lou Katsos EMBCA’s President. The distinguished panel will include ASCSA’s Executive Director George T. Orfanakos; and ASCSA’s General Manager Pantelis Panos; ASCSA’s Assistant Director Carolin (Katie) Fine; Maria A. Liston, Phd Professor Anthropology Department at the University of Waterloo.

The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA), the oldest and largest U.S. overseas research center, has left a profound and enduring legacy on the advanced study of of all aspects of Hellenic culture from Ancient Hellas to the present day, shaping scholarship, education, and cultural exchange for over a century. Founded in 1881, its impact extends far beyond its original mandate, influencing diverse fields such as archaeology, history, art, literature and beyond. Its research facilities include the Gennadius Library is one of the most important libraries in Hellas, the Blegen Library is one of the world's premier research libraries for classical studies and archaeology, Archives and Personal Papers an active and innovative research center encompassing a wide range of scholarly fields, as well as the latest state of the art Wiener Laboratory serving the interests of archaeological scholars both in the Hellenic Republic and abroad through research and cutting-edge scientific analysis with over 150 sponsored projects to date.

At its core, ASCSA serves as a bridge between American graduate students and scholars from nearly 200 North American colleges and universities and the rich cultural heritage of Greece. Through its programs, including fellowships, excavations, and publications, it has facilitated groundbreaking research and fostered a deep understanding of Greek civilization.
